On Tuesday, May 1st we will engage in contract negotiations with representatives of the Prince George’s County Public School System. Although we are facing a tough economic shortfall within the county, we plan to do everything it takes to secure a better contract for our members for the next four years. Updates will be communicated to you at our next General Membership Meeting on Saturday, May 26th.

On that day we will also hold our second computer training class. As within the first class, we will teach you how to access and send emails, log onto your Oracle account to view and/or change your personal information, check your leave balance, etc. We ask that you please call the Union office at 301-403-0271 and register for the class. We want to ensure that we have enough computer terminals for everyone so it is imperative that you pre-register.

Our Scholarship program has expired for this calendar year. The process of choosing the recipient(s) of the scholarship(s) will begin within the upcoming week. The winner(s) will be notified by the Chairman of the Scholarship committee at the conclusion of the selection process.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We need you to call and or email our Legislative Officials. We need them to do the right thing by fully funding the Prince George’s County Public School System.

Governor Martin O’Malley announced that he would convene a special session of the Maryland General Assembly beginning on May 14, 2012. The special session will be held to complete work on Maryland’s budget to ensure that Maryland’s Triple A bond rating is protected, and critical investments in public education, public safety, the State’s workforce, and critical social services are restored.

“There is too much at stake not to move forward,” said Governor O’Malley. “I’m confident that we can come together with the Senate President and House Speaker to complete this most important work for the people of our State.”

Next week, the Governor, Senate President and House Speaker will hold a joint press conference to discuss the upcoming session.

Details on next week’s press conference will be announced at a later date.
